Fees & Transparency

How Are We Paid?

You should know exactly how your advisor is paid.

How we charge for our services

With Vermillion, you only pay for what you need. Our services are à la carte: you choose the services you want, and you pay only for those. If you don’t use a service, you don’t pay for it, and if you want a service, you can add it. If you want us to manage your investments only, we can do that, and you don’t pay for financial planning. If you want financial planning, such as retirement, tax and estate planning, you can choose our financial planning services on their own, even if you are earlier in your career or don’t have the investment minimums many firms require.

Vermillion is a fee-based firm. We do not earn commissions on investment products. For investment management, we charge a percentage of the assets we manage for you, and the percentage depends on the service you choose. Our standard investment management is built on our target investment portfolios. For clients whose situation is more complex, we offer customized investment management and portfolio construction, which has a higher starting fee and a percentage that decreases as the assets we manage grow. Each service has a monthly minimum fee.

For financial planning, we offer flexible fee options tailored to the scope of your needs, giving you complete control over how you engage with us: a monthly service plan with the number of meetings each year that fits your needs, hourly work for a specific question or a service outside your plan, or a flat fee for a defined project, such as a Personal Financial Inventory.

Unlike many firms, we offer not only insurance planning but also insurance implementation, for clients who want it. This service is optional. When we implement an insurance solution, we may receive a commission. We offer this service because it allows clients to work with a fiduciary advisor who knows their entire situation, rather than a traditional insurance agent. No client ever needs to purchase an insurance product through Vermillion, you can work with us in any capacity without it, and insurance commissions represent less than 2% of our firm’s revenue.1

1. Over the last 10 years. Receiving commissions is a conflict of interest, because a commission can give an incentive to recommend a product for the commission rather than for your needs. You may purchase any insurance we recommend through an insurance agent who is not affiliated with Vermillion. See our Disclosures.
